Project Title: | Control of Invasive Species transported by Fouling on Ship Hulls |
Abstract of Project : | |
Invasive alien species (IAS) are argued to be the second-most important cause of biodiversity loss worldwide. I propose to develop a plan to control the introduction of IAS through ship fouling in the marine environment. During my Fulbright grant, I will develop a plan for the quantification of the degree of bio-fouling on a ship, which will act as a self regulation – policing strategy for the ship owners. I also plan to review international policies and create awareness regards IAS issues in the U.S. and thereafter, in India, upon my return. I plan to develop long term collaboration between Srujan and College of Natural Resources, Virginia Tech. through joint venture programs and research projects. |
