Project Title: Guidance to formulate a Methodology to record the effects of Tsunami in the Nicobar Islands
Abstract of Project :
Nicobar archipelago is a remote territory of India in the Bay of Bengal. The area remains relatively less known despite its interesting history and culture due to its inaccessibility. The Tsunami in December 2004 has caused extensive damage to the entire Nicobar archipelago. Ecological, geo-morphological, anthropological, cultural and social changes are evident. I had explored these islands extensively as a naturalist during the pre-tsunami period and had kept a record and eventually authored several books on Andaman and Nicobar Islands. I am making an attempt to keep a record of the changes taking place in the Nicobar archipelago following the Tsunami disaster on long-term basis. During the fellowship, I intend to interact with U.S. experts to prepare a record useful to the international community as a future reference.
