Diana Jue, 2012 U.S. Fulbright-Nehru Student Researcher to India, co-founded ‘Essmart Global’, a private firm that markets essential and life-improving products in rural Tamil Nadu. Essmart Global has tied up with over 650 local retail stores to supply products ranging from solar lanterns and water filters to low-cost smart phones and mobile phone-operated water pumping control systems. Essmart products are specifically researched and designed to suit the needs of a rural community and the catalogue is regularly improved depending on market response. Diana, with her partner Jackie Stenson gave shape to their company in 2010 with their first office in Pollachi in Tamil Nadu.
