Dr. Gouranga Kar, 2011-12 Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research program alumnus was awarded the Recognition Award of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) for his outstanding contribution on water and soil management. The award was presented during the XI Agricultural Science Congress, held at Bhubaneswar in February, 2013. Following his Fulbright-Nehru tenure, Kar has won the Fellowship of Association of Agro-meteorologists of India and the Fellowship of Indian Association of Soil and Water Conservationists as well.

A Principal Scientist at the Directorate of Water Management, Bhubaneswar, Kar spent his Fulbright-Nehru tenure working on water management at the Michigan State University.
