On October 5th, the US Department of State honored 68 American teachers and 19 international teachers that include 5 teachers from India on UNESCO’s World Teachers’ Day in Washington DC. The Indian teachers, Parvati Gubbi (Bengaluru), Pallavi Naik (Pune), Suresh Joshi (Delhi), Reetika Khanna (Chandigarh) and Divya Rathore (Varanasi) are currently studying and conducting research at the University of Maryland under the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program. World Teachers’ Day, designated by UNESCO in 1994, is held annually on October 5 to celebrate teachers worldwide, mobilize support for teachers and ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met.
