Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program

This program offers short-term study and travel seminars abroad for U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities, aimed at enhancing their understanding of people and cultures in other countries. Support is typically provided through interagency agreements, with the Department of Education transferring funds via the State Department to Fulbright commissions in various countries. This collaboration allows the program to leverage the services and expertise of bi-national organizations in planning and conducting seminars for U.S. educators.

To deepen understanding of India, the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) administers an annual five-week seminar in India during the summer. The seminar provides U.S. educators with insights into various aspects of Indian civilization and cultural heritage, including the land and its people, religion and society, visual and performing arts, and history. It also addresses contemporary issues such as economic development, education, women's rights, grassroots movements, and Indo-American relations. As part of the seminar, each participant develops a curriculum project, which is documented by the Education Resources Information Center in Washington, D.C.
